More Green Certification Programs Sprouting Up

As previously blogged in “The Greening of the Multifamily Housing Industry: Which Shade Looks Best” we find ourselves presented with another new green certification program.  SERF, or Society of Environmentally Responsible Facilities, and has started with buildings in the Midwest and plans to work its way across the country.  Launched in October 2010, the program aims to make environmental certification affordable and more accessible to building owners, managers and developers.

Other certification programs out there include LEED, Green Globes, Energy Star 3.0, Green Built Texas, NAHB Green Building Standard.  In addition, multiple local ordinances being put in place in municipalities across the country, and the new IGCC Green Building Standard are due to be published March 2012.

KWA Construction has assisted in obtaining certifications through both LEED and Green Built Texas, as well as involved in the initial development of the Green Built Texas certification program.
