Urban Re:Vision is an organization that was founded in 2007 to remove the barriers in building a truly sustainable block. With the Central Dallas Community Development Corporation, Urban Re:Vision set up an international competition to build a sustainable multi-use site on a 2.5 acre site across from the Dallas City Hall. The requirements were a residential and commercial area that would address issues such as sustainable construction, transportation, waste, energy and health of local economies.

Over 170 entries from 26 different country, “Forwarding Dallas” from Portugal-based Atelier Data and MOOV were selected as the winner. “Forwarding Dallas” incorporates mountain-like towers which allows for a diverse system, including: heavy utilization of native vegetation, open green spaces, courtyards, solar power, wind power, water catchment systems, and public green houses.

While funding is still up in the air, the Central Dallas Community Development Corporation wants to break ground by January, 2011. If the project goes as planned, Dallas will be put at the forefront of sustainable building and design.
