Cambrian College Pioneers Green Construction Education
Posted on 15. Oct, 2009 by admin in Education
On September 21, 2009, Cambrian College brought to life three living labs as the first phase of its Xstrata Nickel Sustainable Energy Centre. The centre is one of the first of its kind in North America, and will specifically hone in on sustainable energy for both small commercial and residential buildings.
As for phase one, the individual living labs concentrate on different facets of green design and development with two labs simulating scaled-down homes. The third lab is a frame that acquires data through photovoltaics and solar thermal panels.
With the completion of phase two of the centre in late 2011, it will consist of six labs in total and intend to transcend LEED® Platinum building standards. Such innovation should put Cambrian College in the foreground of green construction.
